Hope. Fear. Faith.

Many times under hospice care, patients are able to experience special moments due to a high quality of life. Here you see a Faith Hospice patient holding her great-granddaughter, who was named after her.

Words from a thankful daughter.

After seeing how hospice care took care of her mother, the daughter of the hospice patient featured in this photograph wrote the following:

Hope.

The Oxford dictionary defines hope as a desire or a wish for something to happen.  Hope generally is not the first word most people associate with the word hospice.  Yet, hope is the word which describes my family’s experience in the hospice journey.  Our wish and desire for the remainder of mother’s life was for her to be free of pain and supported so that she could actually live.

Fear.

Truthfully, the word hospice scared me.  I thought by considering hospice care, we were giving up on mom’s health, and we were just going to let her die.  From our initial informational meeting, I knew we were on the right path.  With the support of Faith Hospice, she thrived, celebrated a birthday, Mother’s Day and was able to hold an infant great grandchild proudly named after her.

Faith.

The Oxford dictionary defines faith as complete trust or confidence in someone or something.  By definition, I think Faith Hospice is perfectly named.  We put our trust in Faith Hospice and up to mom’s last breath and beyond we have all been supported through the process.
