Conveying Gratitude for Hospice

I want to thank Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties for my recently acquired new friends. I am a hospice patient and I am being cared for at home by my hospice nurse, my social worker, and my spiritual care advisors. These wonderful people, who I call friends, bring me comfort, inspiration, hope and a healthier daily outlook. They help me appreciate each new day that I live.

When I was diagnosed and told I did not have long to live, I knew immediately that I needed to go home from the hospital and get on hospice care. You see, my husband Jerry had hospice care the last two months of his life, first at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence and then the last weeks of his life in the state of Florida. When he first arrived, we thought Jerry would die soon, but the care he received was so wonderful; he became stronger, so much so that we were able to take him to our home in Florida where he continued enjoying his family and his friends with hospice at home. I knew that if I wanted to live longer, I too needed to be on hospice care.

So thank you Hospice, for all your help and support and for allowing me to have more wonderful moments of life. You see, I have always loved to write and have been writing short stories for a very long time. I have many of them. I am so pleased and excited for the opportunity to have one of my stories published. I hope you enjoy my story about Janice and John. Although fictional characters, the story comes from my own experiences with the love of my life, Jerry Brisman.

Thank you. Gloria Brisman
